How do I record an answering message on my computer?
In order to record an answering message, you will need a microphone.  Most laptops come with built in microphones.  You may want to use an external microphone or headset which plugs into your computer.  If you don't have a program on your computer which records audio, you should consider downloading Audacity.

Audacity is a free sound recording tool available for Windows and Mac OS X.  Just record your message with Audacity, click on File > Export As WAV..., and upload the newly created WAV file in your account.

HINT:  For better sound quality, record messages with only one voice, minimize the use of music, and lower the bass frequencies.  Phone companies optimize their system for voice.  You might try adding a short melody to the beginning of your message to spruce it up a bit.  Download these optimized sound clips, choose one you like, and then record your voice after it with a tool like Audacity.  Louder is not better; try to avoid clipping.

Why didn't my answering message get transferred to my cell phone?
A phone connection might have dropped, a poor connection could have caused the transfer to fail, or perhaps the unknown is to blame.  When you initiate a message transfer to your phone, it should be on your phone within a minute after your phone rings.  If you don't hear your phone ring within a few seconds after initiating a transfer, or you don't hear the message on your phone after trying to transfer it twice, please use the form at the top of this page to report your issue.

Remember, your message should be changed within one minute after your phone rings, and you should be able to verify that by checking your voicemail and listening to your current answering message.

What types of audio files can I upload?
You can upload mp3 and wav files.  If a message exceeds 30 seconds in length, it will be truncated to 30 seconds.  All audio files must be 20 MB or less in size.  Standard 44.100 kHz, 16 bit, mono wav audio files are recommended for best sound quality.
